Digestive system
The digestive system is a series of organs that work together to break down food and absorb its nutrients into the body. The main organs of the digestive system are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. The process of digestion starts in the mouth where food is chewed and mixed with saliva, then it moves down the esophagus into the stomach where it is mixed with digestive juices and broken down further. The broken down food then moves into the small intestine where most of the nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. The remaining indigestible matter moves into the large intestine where water and electrolytes are absorbed and the waste is eliminated through the rectum and anus as feces.
